Whether it is from an auto accident, playing sports, or simply growing older, almost everyone experiences moderate to severe back pain at some point in their life. Modern advancements in chiropractic care have led to the development of spinal decompression therapy, a noninvasive treatment to relieve back pain. What is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Spinal decompression therapy is a non-surgical treatment that slowly and gently stretches the spine, which reduces the pressure on compressed discs and vertebrae. Decompression therapy benefits people who suffer from pain or numbness in their neck, extremities, and lower back. History has shown this type of treatment often succeeds where medications and even surgery have failed.

The intervertebral disc is a gel-like cushion between each vertebrae that absorbs pressure and prevents the bones from rubbing against each other. Our decompression treatment alleviates the weight that is constantly on these intervertebral discs and increases the flow of nutrition into the disc, which speeds up the healing process.

Inversion Decompression Treatment in Columbus OH

Our physical rehabilitation center offers two types of decompression therapy, one that uses and inversion table and one that uses a traction table. An inversion table looks like a piece of gym equipment. It has a back cushion that you stand against while we strap your ankles into the footrest. You are then flipped upside down so you are suspended by your ankles.

Despite the image this may bring you, inversion therapy is actually quite comfortable and soothing, especially for people who suffer from neck and back pain. It utilizes gravity to naturally separate the vertebrae and provide much-needed relief for the intervertebral discs. Inversion tables are available for retail purchase, but it is much safer to use them in a controlled environment monitored by trained professionals.

Our rehabilitation center has eight convenient locations so you can receive decompression therapy services wherever you are throughout Ohio.

Benefits of Traction Decompression Therapy

Much like inversion therapy, traction decompression treatment is a safe alternative to surgery for those in need of relief for back and neck pain. Patients that have used a traction table at our rehabilitation center experienced a significant reduction in pain. In some cases, it eliminated the pain entirely.

To begin the traction therapy, you lay down on the therapeutic table connected to a computer that controls the table. You are fitted with a harness that allows the table to gently stretch your spine, taking the weight off the vertebrae, vertebral discs, and spinal muscles. These three areas produce the majority of back pain in patients.

During the treatment, it is normal to feel immediate pain relief. Creating space between vertebrae allows oxygen, blood, and nutrients to flow into the most painful areas. That is why our successful decompression therapy offers both short-term and long-term benefits. Find out more about how you can be restored to a pain-free life!
